The Punk Boy Cut

New York Fashion Week is in full swing and trust Tom Ford to deliver seriousl sex appeal in the form of figure hugging dresses, ultra-sheer fabrics, racy micro minis and suiting with razor sharp shoulders. As for the hair, he gave the hottest models of the moment – Kendall, Gigi, and Lexi - short pixie crops with a punk edge.  “I love this look.  It’s the pixie with a modern twist and punky edge with its sharp textured bangs and layers,” says MLD’s Creative Director Leon Gorman.

Hillary “What happened?”

From fashion week to politics (though she is responsible for igniting lust for the colored pant suit), Hillary Clinton has released her book ‘What Happened’ detailing her devastation after her surprise election loss.  No matter what side of politics you’re on (we are with her), it’s a fascinating, charming read with plenty of admissions about biting her tongue and sorry for this, but not sorry for that.

The Classic Cut

The Classic Cut

In a world full of trends, it’s refreshing to celebrate looks that suits everyone and simply never go out of style. Like the classic shoulder bone grazing blunt crop, which is a more modern take on the bob and a great way to flatter and soften all face shapes, while adding thickness and natural looking texture. "Women are loving this look right now, the length is glamorous and the soft layered effect creates volume and movement”, says Tre Wyrosdick, Color Director for Marie-Lou&D. To really enhance the look and shape of the cut go for some clever color contouring. “Balayage was the technique used to achieve this cool sandy blonde tone which accentuates the rich brunette shades,” says Tre. The beauty of this look is it works straight and

sleek and also in sexy beach waves. To style at home Tre recommends applying a root volumizer and blow dry balm to damp hair to create natural volume and smooth the ends.

"Women are loving this look right now, the length is glamorous and the soft layered effect creates volume and movement."

Then use a curling iron in alternating directions to achieve the natural beauty finish. To rock the style for days, use dry shampoo to inject more volume and definition. Make a date with Tre or one of the MLD Creative Team for a classic cut or balayage highlights.

Beauty update:  Why strong is the new skinny

Jennifer Lawrence graces the September issue of Vogue and uses it to reinforce her stance on positive body image saying the word fat should be banned and refusing to diet or starve herself for the sake of a role. No wonder we all love her. “That’s something I was really conscious of during training, when you’re trying to get your body to look exactly right. I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong—not thin and underfed.”

The Bob Hairstyle is Back

The Bob is Back

Trust supermodel-of-the-moment Bella Hadid to ignite lust for summer’s hottest hairstyle - yes the bob is back baby. The classic look makes a fashionable return every couple of years according to New York’s top hair stylist and MLD Creative Director, Leon Gorman who says the great news is it’s a style that suits most face shapes.

“There is a real eighties vibe in fashion and beauty and Bella really kicked things off when she showed off her dramatic crop and bangs at the CFDA awards,” says Leon who shared his expert tips for getting the look. Look out Bella.

Which shape face shape best suits the bob?
“It’s such a classic cut that works for most women, especially those with oval faces.  If you have a long face or square jaw, I’d recommend going a little longer and softening things with some layers at the top.”

What is the ideal length?
“For a lovely shape around the face, half and inch under the chin”.

Are there different ways to work the bob?
“Yes you could go for a short sharp bob that’s all the one length for that Pulp Fiction feel.  Or break it up with a few layers to make the look less bowl like.”

Are bangs a must?
“The bob looks fierce with bangs, but can also look very demure the same length and worn center-parted or swept to one side.”

Does a dramatic cut call for a dramatic color change?
“It’s such a cool geometric style that can look even more fashion-forward in shades of platinum blonde, rose gold or hot chocolate like Bella.  I’d advise lightening things up and creating dimension with balayage in summer and moving into more brunette shades for fall”.

Beauty update:  Bleached brows and blonde

Beauty trends change at lightning speed.  Remember when it was all about darker brows against lighter locks?  Well making the case for bleaching your brows to a barely-there shade (aka much lighter than your hair color) is Georgia May Jagger and fellow IT models.   Time to lighten up?
