Modern French Braids

Modern French Braids

You can count on actress and style star Sienna Miller to showcase the latest fashion and beauty looks and we’re mad about her half up, half down mini French braid. The look is perfect for wedding season - Miranda Kerr tied the knot this past weekend - or anyone wanting to make a cool girl hair statement says Marie Lou & D’s Creative Director Leon Gorman. “This trend is big on the runway and red carpet right now.  To get the look in the real world, make a date with our team at the salon..”

Georgia O’Keefe

Don’t miss Georgia O’Keeffe: Living Modern on now at the Brooklyn Museum. The exhibition celebrates the life, style and iconic artworks by the woman considered the mother of American modernism and one of our most staunch feminists.  Known for her penchant for wearing black, printed headscarves and refusal to confirm to a fashion ideal, O’Keefe’s legacy continues to influence the fashion and art world - perhaps it’s the artists’s signature enlarged flower paintings that have sparked fashion’s current love affair for floralmania.

Check out the Georgia O’Keefe Exhibition until 23 July

The New Bob

 The New Bob

It’s non-stop A-list glamour on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and at MLD we’re loving that the classic bob has stepped into the spotlight thanks to model of the moment Bella Hadid’s new look. Also showcasing a chic chin-length crop is felllow supermodel Hailey Baldwin and beautiful French actress Marion Cotillard. The best bit about today’s bob is you can wear it super sleek (hello flat iron), sexy and textured (just add serum) or show off vintage style curls or waves.  “The bob never goes out of style because it looks great on women of all ages, hair colors and textures.  Right now you can give it a modern update with different styling techniques including messy up-do’s,” says Marie-Lou & D Creative Director Leon Gorman.

Vanessa Paradis shares her beauty secrets

Given our obsession with Cannes and all things French right now it’s only fitting we let you on the beauty and style secrets of stunning French model, singer and Chanel muse Vanessa Paradis.  The body is down to ballet, she can’t survive without charcoal eyeliner and that wet look hair is perfect for the hot summer nights ahead.  "Apply gel through your hair, separate and twirl around your fingers and dry with a diffuser.  For that oily wet look, finish by smoothing serum through the mid length and ends" says Leon.

A Little Inspiration:   Sunset Cocktails on the Grand Banks

Memorial Day officially kicks off the summer season and if you’re not heading out of town hit the Hudson River for spectacular sunsets, and a sip of rose aboard the floating oyster bar Grand Banks.  The seasonal bar is a historic wooden schooner inspired by the oyster barges that lined Manhattan’s shores during the 18th century.

Sexy Natural Waves

Sexy Natural Waves

On the runway right now, designers and luxury brands are showcasing their Resort 2018 collections (the clothes you need to bridge the gap between Fall/Winter and Spring Summer).  But at Marie-Lou & D our eyes were on the hair (as well as those winged eyes) at Louis Vuitton’s epic show in Japan. “There is definitely a very modern, natural, wavy vibe around but the direction for hair this season is really a melting pot. There’s a feeling of freedom, self-expression and anything goes” says Leon Gorman, our new Creative Director who regularly works his magic for Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire.

Hair Color Contouring

Hair Color Contouring

The hot hair trend of the moment says Marie-Lou &D stylist Katie Murphy is “Color contouring which like make-up contouring brings out the best of your facial bone structure.” An extension of balayage - painting on highlights to give a natural graduated look - the contouring technique is done by adding highlights to lighten and low-lights to create shadows and give the illusion of a more defined face shape.  Now if that’s not a trend to get excited about we don’t know what is.  For all the latest hair trends check out Marie-Lou & D on Pure Wow.

The 2017 Met Gala

The 2017 Met Gala

Fashion, Fantasy, Celebrity Glamour

Considered fashion’s Oscars the A-list was out in force to celebrate the 2017 Met Gala in New York. This year the honoree is Rei Kawakubo, the Japanese conceptual designer behind Comme des Garcon, so naturally the theme was avant garde. Rihanna rocked the code - and shut down the red carpet - in a cascading floral gown. Elsewhere, the look was glamour with a hint of fantasy.
